THE SOUTH ASIAN FOOTBALL FEDERATION (SAFF) IS THE UNITY OF SOUTH ASIAN FOOTBALL-PLAYING COUNTRIES
The organization is made of football’s national governing units of each member country of the region.
The member associations are – Bangladesh Football Federation, Bhutan Football Federation, All India Football Federation, Football Association of Maldives, All Nepal Football Association, Pakistan Football Federation, and Football Federation of Sri Lanka.
At present, the President of the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Mr. Kazi Md. Salahuddin is leading the SAFF as its President. The SAFF Secretariat is currently located in Bangladesh.
The tournament is scheduled to commence on June 21st. The upcoming 2023 SAFF Championship is just around the corner, as the eight participating nations prepare to compete against each other in an intense two-week tournament.
This will be the 14th edition of the competition organized by the South Asian Football Federation, featuring a total of eight teams. Two guest participants, Kuwait and Lebanon, have been invited to join the event.
With the tournament set to begin in a few days, here is a comprehensive overview of the 2023 SAFF Championship.

Format of SAFF Championship 2023:
The eight participating teams in the 2023 SAFF Championship have been divided into two groups of four. Each team will play against all the other teams in their group in a round-robin format. At the end of the group stage, the top team and the runner-up from each group will advance to the knockout stage.
In the knockout stage, the winner of one group will face the runner-up from the other group, and vice versa.
Teams will be ranked based on points earned. A win will grant a team three points, a draw will result in one point, and no points will be given for a loss. If two teams are tied on points after all the group stage matches, the following criteria will be considered to determine the ranking:
Points earned in head-to-head matches among tied teams.
Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams.
Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams.
Goal difference in all group matches.
Goals scored in all group matches.
Penalty shoot-out if only two teams are tied and they faced each other in the last round of the group.
Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card resulting from two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points).
