Paris Saint-Germain Football Club, sometimes known as Paris Saint-Germain, Paris, Paris SG, or simply PSG, is a professional football team with its home field in Paris, France. They play in Ligue 1, the highest level of French football competition. They have more than 40 official awards under their belt as France's most successful club, including ten league crowns and one significant European trophy. The Parc des Princes is where they play at home.
In 1970, the Parisians were established as a result of the union of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain. In 1982, PSG won their first significant award, the French Cup, and in 1986, they earned their first Division 1 championship. One of the club's most prosperous eras in its history was the 1990s, during which time they won two league championships, three French Cups, two French League Cups, two French Super Cups, and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996. The Red and Blues saw a fall in their fortunes during the 2000s, but from 2011 they have seen a comeback thanks to increasing financial support. They have achieved unprecedented supremacy in domestic tournaments, winning numerous league titles and national cups. PSG has also established itself as a consistent participant in the UEFA Champions League, making their first final in 2020.
PSG is one of just two French clubs to have won a significant European championship and has played in the top division for the most straight seasons. They are one of the most widely supported teams in the world and the most well-liked football club in France. PSG's crest includes the Eiffel Tower and a fleur-de-lis, and their home uniforms are red, blue, and white. The two teams compete in Le Classique, the most infamous game in French football, in a long-standing rivalry between Paris and Olympique de Marseille.
Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), a closed stakeholder that bought Paris Saint-Germain in 2011, is owned by Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. PSG is now one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and the richest in France thanks to the takeover. According to Deloitte, Paris now has the sixth-highest revenue in the world of football ($556 million annually), and according to Forbes, the seventh-most valuable football club in the world ($3.2 billion).
