Despite lacking local Australian international rights, which have been a mainstay at the Nine Network since 1979, Fox Sports has broadcast the majority of Australian foreign tours since its start in 1995 as Premier Sports Network. Australia's 1995 tour of the West Indies, which also marked the debut of pay television in Australia, was the first significant cricket event to be aired on PSN. Nine, who had broadcast on free-to-air until 1995, attempted to avoid PTV in accordance with Australian anti-siphoning laws, which prohibit the exclusive airing of certain events on pay television. In the end, a deal was reached with Network Ten to air the show on FTA in addition to PTV and PSN. The first two seasons of the Big Bash League and the Sheffield Shield final were among the domestic cricket tournaments in Australia that Fox Sports held exclusive rights to from 2005–06 to 2012–13. Fox also aired highlights of men's international Test, ODI, and T20 matches that were played in Australia. For the following five years, Fox Sports lost the rights to the Ryobi One-Day Cup and the BBL to Network Ten and Nine, respectively. Nine continued to air international cricket in Australia. Except for the Ashes visits of England, which Nine had exclusive rights to broadcast, most international cricket matches were televised on Fox. The 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, which was held in Australia, was carried on Fox Sports together with Nine.

Fox Sports and Cricket Australia reached a six-year agreement in April 2018 that increased their prior cricket coverage on the Foxtel platform. This agreement was a part of Cricket Australia's six-year overall coverage agreement, which also covers Channel Seven's free to air coverage.

Early in May, Foxtel announced the launch of Fox Cricket, a dedicated channel that would air all international cricket from the Australian Summer of 2018 and 2019, including all tests, one-day, and T20 events as well as the Big Bash Leagues and World Cups.

On September 17, 2018, the channel made its premiere, airing the 2018 Caribbean Premier League championship game live.
